I don't EVER want to hear you say:
" I want it that way "

"It's the Backstreet Boy's world, we just live here" quoth entertainment weekly, and how right they are. I personally think that's because there isn't anything particularly shnazzy to offer in the alternative world right now. Gwen Stefani and her girlyness have been gone for awhile, and so have the "gwenabees", the Beastie Boys's album has been out for about a year now, no one liked the last Smashing Pumpkins album, and the radio killed Pearl Jam's last single by playing it 500 times too many. And all the "new" music by Korn and Limp Bizkit is appealing to the Backstreet fans (Could quite possibly have something to do with it sucking and/or the being on total request live thing. You chose).

All we've got now is like Smash Mouth, Blink, and I guess that stupid as sin song from Len. (I believe this all supports the theory that the 90's truly are over) so unless we get a revival soon when Nine Inch Nails (countdown: about 15 hours till the fragile is released!!!!!!), Fiona, Rage, Bush, Tori, Live, Chris Cornell, 311, and others release new albums that don't and can't possibly fit into the "pop" category, you're gonna have to sit through it.

Anyway, back to the Backstreet Boys-sure, they don't write their own songs, but that's not the point. They're supposed to sing, dance, wear matching outfits, be cute, and get to the success point where you can buy necklaces with their names on them in Claire's boutique. Some people will try to figure out how to lure them and all other singers who used to be on the mickey mouse club into the fiery pits of hell, but just get frustrated over how hopeless the situation is and go listen to Nirvana. But I don't think you should hate the Backstreet Boys. It's a waste of time, and it's immature and stupid to dwell on (I'm not gonna try to stop anyone from hating the fans that try and jump on them like they're not human beings and have no brains and say dumb shit on mtv like "the beastie boys and the backstreet boys should go on tour together because they both have 'boys' in their name"). *cough* But like i was saying-grow up, promote tolerance! Its like back in the AOL version 2.0 days where people would go into MTV chat and say "rap sux" over and over again. Sooooo many things promote shallowness or mocks whatever you might consider to be "true art", Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears and the genie in the bottle girl are not all to blame.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the song I Want It That Way. Has anyone ever done a double take on these lyrics? Am I the only one who realizes that IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!!!!????? I've tried to understand them by talking to some Backstreet Boys fans, and they all tell me its about 2 different points of view on one relationship-and I get that part, but the lyrics still don't make sense!

These are the lyrics:

You are my fire
The one desire
Believe when I say
I want it that way

But we are two worlds apart
Can't reach to your heart
When you say
That I want it that way

Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
Tell me why
I never wanna hear you say
I want it that way

Am I your fire
Your one desire
Yes I know it's too late
But I want it that way

Now I can see that we've fallen apart
From the way that it used to be, yeah
No matter the distance
I want you to know that
Deep down inside of me

You are my fire
The one desire
You are, you are, you are, you are
Don't wanna hear you say...

Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
I wanna hear you say
I never wanna hear you say
I want it that way

Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
Tell me why
I never wanna hear you say
I want it that way

Cuz I want it that way

Does anyone notice? Does anyone care? Can we do something about this? I know that with poetic license, some things are hard to understand, but this isn't hard to understand because its deep, it just DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. See, I've read the lyrics about 100 times, and one time I almost had it until I got to the 4th stanza and then its just like..jigga who? Is this what its gonna be like...the people that write these songs can stop making sense as long as they rhyme correctly? I just really don't get it, and it makes me mad that I seem to be missing something that pop fans seem to have in their obviously more advanced minds. Arg.
